For iOS users, Airplay is a Godsend. It allows you to wirelessly stream audio/video/photo content from your iOS device over to another iOS-enabled device. When it first debuted, it was limited to Apple’s own products. For instance, you could send audio-visual material from your iPad over to your Apple TV in order to watch it on the big screen.
Eventually, along came Airplay-enabled audio devices. Most of these were pretty expensive and limited to audio amplifiers (such as Denon). Now, however, we are starting to see a bunch of Airplay-enabled powered speakers from the likes of Loewe (the Loewe AirSpeaker) and Audyssey.
What’s nice about the Audyssey is that it is so compact. While you might not want to carry this from home to office everyday, you could pop it in your suitcase to take on the road.
Reviews suggest that the sonic range is acceptable with good bass. However, there are some complaints about the streaming itself experiencing drop-outs. Here’s a comprehensive review that covers some of its shortcomings.
Nevertheless, if you have an ideal environment and want to take an Airplay-enabled speaker with you on the road, this looks like one of your best choices.
