I don’t normally get enthused about vacuums and even less about cleaning… but when I saw this Dyson DC26 bag-less vacuum cleaner at a recent design show, it made me want to get one and spring clean the whole house!
I mean, this is the cutest, smallest and most elegant designs for urban living that I have ever seen. And it packs a punch – happily hoovering up anything in its path.
I have been a happy owner of a Dyson vacuum cleaner for several years now, although the model I use is a bit over-complicated. In some ways, it’s over-engineered and very confusing to use for the first time. It takes at least 5 different moves to assemble for use, or put away for storage. Still, it has performed well and it’s extremely clever in that it folds up into a fraction of its size for storage.
This one is only slightly larger than a hand-held vacuum dustbuster and – as the marketing oft repeats – it fits on an A4 sheet of paper (or in the palm of your hand).
When you get all the gubbins, though, the vacuum looks a bit larger, as this picture reveals:
Still, it’s a fantastic little work-horse for capsule apartments and those of us who live in very small, urban spaces. But, if you are lucky to live in a multi-story home, you’ll find it much easier to hump up and down stairs than the regular-sized vacuums.
Also, as with other Dyson designs, this vacuum does not need bags. Some may prefer having bags, as they contain all the litter in a neat comportment. But, frankly, I don’t… because I always seem to be running out of them when I need them most… and since every manufacturer insists upon re-inventing their own, proprietary bag (to make more $$ of course on supplies), this is a welcome feature.
If you want to see it in action, here is some decent footage (if not exactly riveting viewing):
Pocket-lint has a decent review worth reading.
