If you’ve ever deplaned and had to walk miles and miles to the baggage reclaim (a frequent occurance here in the UK, considering how often the travelators are out of service), you’ll appreciate a “Luggage Scooter”. If you’ve ever been late to get to your gate, even more so.
Carry Luggage and Bags
Essentially, A luggage scooter is a carry on bag that doubles as a scooter, so you can scoot your way through those ridiculously long airport halls and tunnels without breaking a sweat.
The first one worth looking at is from Samsonite – The Samsonite Micro Scooter. Developed in conjunction with Micro Scooter in the UK, it has a flip-down base that can be stowed out of the way when not being used to carry you. It weighs about 5kg when empty. Unfortunately, it only seems to be available in the UK at the present time. Here’s a video from a reviewer that’s worth looking at:
Judging from the video, it probably isn’t great for very tall (or heavy) users, because the base board is pretty narrow and the distance between you and the bag is very short. Also, I’m not sure how much handling you get from the wheelbase. However, for infrequent airport use it’s pretty cool.
Designer Xavier Lapointe has gone for a larger, suitcase luggage version with his ‘Trafic’ product. Sadly, this product appears to be a prototype not yet on the market. Shame, because the handling looks really good and the prototype very well-built.
It is aimed at hikers, trekkers and burly people who want to have a scooter ready when they need it but, otherwise, enjoy hiking to remote areas. The idea is that they hike uphill and then coast downhill. It’s actually a bit difficult to use as a scooter, so it’s mainly to for riding downhill. Here is some more description from the manufacturer. It costs about £1,500, so it’s not for the feint-hearted.

The Samsonite Micro Mover is a fold-up set of trolley to give your carry on bags a set of wheels (if they don’t already have them). It’s extremely small and light-weight. Very easy to pack.
