The solar case contains a 1,500mAh rechargeable battery that can be used to recharge your Kindle device, or power the 800 Fatlux LED lamp for up to 50 hours on a charge. You simply press a button to release the lamp, which swivels outwards. The lamp turns off automatically when stowed and does not draw power from your Kindle. Alternatively, you can press a power button to have the solar battery used to recharge the Kindle itself. It will only recharge for one hour at a time – apparently to conserve power to operate the lamp. According to the manufacturer, this will result in an extra 10 days of Kindle usage.
The case does add a bit of bulk to your Kindle but the Solar Panel cover is only 1mm thick. The case weighs 8 ounces.
At the moment, it is only available for the Kindle Touch.
The case does require direct sunlight to recharge properly. Based on customer feedback, it will not recharge itself from ambient light indoors.
