USB Charging Nirvana sighted – Scosche Revolt H4

If you’re travelling with several tablets, phones, wifi hard drives, mp3 players and game devices in tow – particularly in families with more than one iPad or Android device – you’ll discover that it’s nearly impossible to find a USB travel charger that can simultaneously charge all your 2.1 amp devices at once. Instead, most of the multiple port USB chargers on the market can only supply a maximum of 2.1 amps across ALL of their USB ports. That means that when you plug in your iPad, nothing else can be plugged in and recharged at the same time.

You’ll find tons and tons of suppliers selling 2 x port and 4 x port USB chargers – sometimes, even 8 x port or more – but very, very few ACTUALLY offer the capacity to recharge several 2.1 amp devices at once. So – if this is what you want to do, you will be disappointed.

Of course there are exceptions. One of them, we have detailed here (see our article on “Recharging iPads – How to charge two iPads at once” and, also, our guide to the best USB chargers on the market). But most of these devices are two port USB chargers.

But this one – goes to 4

Scosche has always been a pioneer when it comes to USB chargers. They consistently manufacture top-notch, cutting edge USB accessories and, now, they’ve done it again with a four port, 10W 2.1 amp charger. That’s 2.1 amps at EACH AND EVERY USB port. This means that you’ll be able to recharge four iPads or tablets at once. Or, two iPads and two phones at once. Or…. okay, you get the picture.

Apparently, the four port version (reVOLT H4) is not yet ready for primetime, so we’ll be waiting with baited breath. In the meantime, Scosche has the reVOLT H2, which supports 2 x 2.1 amp USB ports and is an upgrade to their reVive II – which had one 2.1 amp and one 500ma port.

Don’t be confused by the form-factor of the reVOLT. It looks exactly like the reVIVE H4 pro. Hmmm…. reVOLT… reVIVE…. confusing. The difference being that the reVIVE can only provide up to 1amp of power per USB port, whereas the reVOLT H4 aims for 2.1 amp to each. The reVIVE H4 is available now in shops. Here’s a little guide to help:

  • reVIVE H4 – 1amp to each port x 4
  • reVIVE H2 – same as H4 but only 2 ports
  • reVOLT H4 – 2.1 amp to each port x 4

In the meantime, here is a list of powerful USB rechargers that are available right now.

Add USB power to your Apple Brick

If you use an Apple Laptop, then you have an Apple power supply. The Plug Bug is a handy little gizmo that slides onto the end of your Apple Power Supply and adds a 10-Watt USB recharger. Now you can power your laptop and fast recharge your iPad at the same time. Of course, you can also use the Plug Bug with any other USB devices that need recharging. At 10 watts, it will provide plenty of power to recharge thirsty tablets. The Plug Bug has retractable prongs for US outlets. There are no other international models at this time, so if you travel the world with it - you'll need to bring adapters. Click here to read our article. Or, Click Here to Buy.
