Sony has been an undisputed leader when it comes to technology and features in a compact camera. The Sony Cybershot DSC-RX100 III is the most sophisticated compact camera out there (click here for an in-depth review). You might be tempted by others but it will come down to lenses and form factors, since the Sony really does have everything and the kitchen sink. But don’t buy one, yet!
Why? Two reasons.
Nikon has two competing models: the DL18-50 and DL24-85. Personally, I’m excited to get my hands on the first one, as I find the wider angled lenses to be more versatile when using a pocket camera and taking pics of family and friends on the road.
On a feature-by-feature comparison basis, the new Nikons and the Sony camera are going to be neck-and-neck. Sony is going to have the edge in that their model will be on its fourth iteration and more mature, plus, let’s be honest, it’s likely to have the edge when it comes to technology. But the Nikons are likely to have the edge when it comes to their lense. It will be interesting to see what the picture quality is like between the two.
If you can’t decide, get both!
